How long ago did you start your business? What led you to start it?
I started blogging in early 2012; I have always had a passion for writing, connecting with businesses and trying new stuff. I love helping others discover apps, websites, products and more! There are certain things that make my life a little more wonderful, so I want to share that with the world. Besides my blog, I co-own a magazine and do all the advertising sales, so I am very professional and experienced when it comes to talking with business owners.

What types of services/products do you offer?
I do product, app and website reviews. I also talk about my family and make YouTube videos on a number of things.

Describe your first few months getting started. What were your major challenges?
Surprisingly, blogging and getting in front of companies came very easy to me. Of course I wasn’t getting paid right away for my reviews and opinions on the companies’ products, but I was ok with that, because I still have my income from the magazine. Getting paid gigs is definitely a challenge to bloggers and it takes some time to find that right companies to work with and it takes on average about 45 days to get paid from the time you submit your review.

What has surprised you the most about yourself when it comes to running your own business?
The amount of time I put in to it and how I feel after. I LOVE running my own businesses. There are weeks when I work 80-90 hours and at the end of such a long day, I am ready to set my alarm clock and do it all over again, because I truly love what I am doing! Passion is key! Without it, your businesses fail.

How has owning your own business benefitted you as a mother and wife?
It has given me the ability to make my own office hours and really enjoy my time with the kids and my husband. My husband owns two companies as well, so we are able to work at night and take a day with the kids, or drop everything and jump a plane to Vegas.

What do you enjoy the most about owning your own business?
Probably the flexibility. I also love not having a boss 😉

What are your goals for the future?
I would really like to double my income next year. I have put a lot of money and time into my business and I would really like a return on that.

What advice do you have for women who may want to take the leap and own their own businesses?
JUST DO IT! Start! It’s better to start with a little something, than do nothing. People think, “I have to get it perfect before launching it” and you don’t. Just get out there — your viewers and customers will let you know what to fix. Let their feedback perfect your business.
